Convict Lake is a lake located in Mono County, California, United States, situated in the Sherwin Range of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is known for its turquoise-blue water, the dramatic mountains that surround it, the trout fishing it affords, and its unusual history.
This is a family favorite for both fishing and hiking. When ever we are passing through Mammoth on Hwy 395 we make it a point to visit Convict Lake. The trail that circles the lake is fun and exciting with all kinds of views.
When you arrive there is a parking lot at the outlet of the lake. You can also drive around the south east side of the lake where there are numerous campgrounds. You can look into campground reservations here.
At the inlet of the lake is a nice stream and a trail that leads into the back country of the Sierras. I have had many an enjoyable back packing trip that started there.
